calendar & events: 21st century fund walk/run

Dear 21st Century Fund Supporters,

The 21st Century Fund will not be holding the Walk/Run in the fall of 2010.  Thank you very much for your support of the Walk/Run, which has allowed the 21st Century Fund to partner with BHS teams, clubs, and other Brookline organizations to raise money for their causes and activities.  In 2008, 300 runners and walkers participated in the 5K race and nearly $30,000 was raised for the participating teams.  We appreciate your continued support of the 21st Century Fund and Brookline High School.  We hope to hold the event again in the coming years.

Sincerely,
The 21st Century Fund

How to Register?

Why? The 21st Century Fund is sponsoring and planning this event to give groups in the community of BrooklineHigh School the opportunity to raise money themselves for their activities. Part of our mission is to support students in becoming leaders and citizens in a changing world.

This second annual event is being planned by the 21st Century Fund and we invite you to participate.  The 21st Century Fund is committed to expanding awareness and engagement of the community at large into its mission – to serve as a sustainable source of funding for new approaches to major challenges in public high school education.  Our goal with this event is to provide participants with an experience designed to connect them with the mission of the Fund and to provide them with an opportunity to raise funds for causes they care about and participate in.

We have designed a model for the event that is wholly planned, organized and executed by volunteers of the 21st Century Fund. In turn, the event serves as a fundraising opportunity for other entities that struggle to raise and compete for funds from the Brookline community.  As the primary event sponsor, the 21st Century Fund forges partnerships with clubs, organizations, programs and athletic teams within Brookline High School and with non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations in the Brookline community.  Participation in the event is encouraged by these partner entities as a way to raise funds to benefit their individual organization.

For example, a student who belongs to the Swim Team at BHS would likely be encouraged by his/her coach to sign up and participate on behalf of the Swim team.  Upon registering for the event, the student would designate the Swim Team as the benefactor of pledges they solicit to support them as a participant in the Walk/Run.  Eighty percent of all generated pledges generated by each team member would be given to the Swim Team and the remaining twenty percent would be used by the Fund to first cover the expenses of the Walk/Run, and then for future 21st Century Fund programs.

In an effort to encourage the broadest participation possible, the registration fee is set at $10.00 for all registrants – walkers and runners.  We hope you will join us in supporting the Brookline High School community – by volunteering, joining a team, sponsoring participants, and encouraging others to do the same.
