Brookline Artists Auction Original Pieces in
Support of the Brookline High School 21st Century Fund


Reflecting the passion of this year’s Brookline High School
21st Century Fund Gala honorees


The Brookline High School 21st Century Fund is pleased to announce the auction of six original pieces of art, created by Brookline artists, that uniquely reflect the passion and careers of each the six honorees of this year’s BHS 21st Century Fund Gala, which will be held on November 15, 2008.

Each piece of art begins with a mirror that is set in a one-of-a-kind frame, designed and personally crafted by acclaimed Brookline artists and inspired by the Gala honorees.  The pieces have been created in various media, from oil, to collage, to glass and mixed media.

The artists include:
Evelyn Berde for Liz Walker
Award Winning Broadcast Journalist, Youth Minister, Activist, Filmmaker, and BHS Parent

Jenn Mason for Jonathon Riley
U.S. Indoor Champion Distance Runner, Olympian, Scholar, and BHS Alumnus

Matti Insco Williams for Terry Francona
Manager of the World Champion Boston Red Sox and BHS Parent

John Bassett for Malcolm Lowe
Concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Violinist, Teacher, and BHS Parent

Fred Free for Steve Lantos
Award-winning BHS Chemistry Teacher, Author, and BHS Alumnus

Christina Powell for Sarah Lamb
Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet of London, Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and BHS Alumnus.

“We are thrilled and honored that such distinguished artists have given of their time and talent to support the Fund in this creative way,” said Hsiu-Lan Chang, Overseer, BHS 21st Century Fund.

Organized in partnership with the Brookline Community Foundation, a reception featuring the artists will be held at FastFrame, 1628 Beacon Street in Brookline on Thursday, October 30 from 6-8 p.m. All are invited.

“Art has the power to bring all different kinds of people together and strengthen the community. BCF is so appreciative of the generosity shown by these local artists. Their participation is a wonderful example of civic engagement and support.” said Gwen Ossenfort, Artist Liaison, Brookline Community Foundation.

These renowned artists are continuously innovating and advancing their craft and that’s what the Fund is doing for education, both here in Brookline and then taking those innovations to the national level,” said Dr. Robert Weintraub, headmaster, Brookline High School.

The pieces will be on display beginning October 23 through November 15 at FastFrame, and will be auctioned off the night of the 21st Century Fund Gala.  Gala tickets are available by contacting the 21st Century Fund at (617) 713-5211 or purchase online here
